Village News

 ACCREDITATION NEWS

2011 is going to be an exciting year for the Village.  We will be working on our Bright Stars Rating and renewing our license with the Rhode Island Department of Education.  In the past two years, the face of Early Childhood Education has changed dramatically.  ECE has finally been recognized as a very important component in the foundation of a child's educational career.  We are excited to be a part of this field and to continue offering a High Quality Early Childhood Education program.  We will continue to keep you informed on our progress.

Our Classrooms

Infant Room

We continue to assess the development of Infants and Toddlers using the Ages & Stages Questionnaire assessment tool.  Our program is part of the "Watch Me Grow RI" Network which provides training and technical assistance to child care providers on developmental screening and related topics.

 MILESTONES:

Sam is on cereal, and loves to eat and is growing  by

  leaps and bounds.

Liam is now eating finger foods and is enjoying every

bite. He is smiling a lot to show off his new teeth and

is beginning creep.  We suspect he is going to skip

crawling and just start running.  Have fun Mom &

  Dad.

Ben is crawling on all fours, has four teeth and enjoys

every meal.  He always has a smile on his face and

love to show off his new "fangs".

Two favorite songs the babies love to dance to are

"The Chicken Dance" and "If You're Happy and You

  Know It".

TODDLER ROOM

Our Toddler group love to dance, sing songs and play

musical instruments. Their favorite characters are

Elmo and Dora. We have a variety of themes

  planned for this winter.

Congratulations to Cameron and Charley who have

both transitioned to the Preschool classroom.

PRESCHOOL ROOM

Our preschool curriculum is based on The Rhode

Island Early Learning Standards.  One of the

standards that the preschool classroom will focus

on this quarter is Literacy. The Learning Goal will be

  Book Knowledge and Appreciation.

Here are some suggestions when reading to your

 child:

  • Introduce your child to different kinds of books to see which are most interesting and let your child choose a book to read.
  •  As you read, change voices for the different characters.
  •  After reading a few pages, wonder out loud about the characters and the story.  Ask "What do you think will happen next?"
  •  After reading the book, talk about the story and have your child retell the story to someone else.

  • Mark Your Calendars:

Time is quickly approaching for Before/After Kindergarten and School Age Care for 2011/12 school year.

REGISTER BY MARCH 1ST TO SECURE YOUR CHILD'S PLACEMENT

Exeter/West Greenwich will have morning Kindergarten.  Registration is March 22-26

    Parent Block

In closing, we would like to add a Parent Block in our next newsletter.  We would like feedback from you on topics of interest in Early Childhood Education.   Please email us your comments and feedback and we will do our best to provide you with the information you are requesting. Also, if there is anything you want to share such as nutrition, fun activities, favorite new book, or places of interest.. etc, we would add it to our Parent Block.
